New Chiropractic Patient

As a new chiropractic patient at Ocean View Chiropractic, let us tell you what to expect.

Your First Visit

When a new chiropractic patient visits Ocean View Chiropractic on their first day, they should feel assured that they will be receiving what many of our patients have referred to as the most in-depth examination that they have ever received. That is because at Ocean View Chiropractic we offer a complete nervous system examination.

Examinations

Chiropractic Care Consultation - Chiropractic PatientWe begin with a comprehensive patient history followed by a routine medical exam, checking weight, blood pressure, etc. We then move on to chiropractic, orthopedic and neurological testing, checking for decreased reflexes and range of motion and addressing areas of pain or lack of function. Next, patients receive a full spinal evaluation checking for nervous system interference in the form of subluxations throughout the entire spine.

If throughout the examination, the doctor notices any decreased function or severe levels of pain, x-rays may be taken. Any x-rays taken of the neck and spine would be to ensure that there are no signs of injury or damage that the doctor should be aware of before treatment is administered. Upon completion of the examination, the patient is then asked to return for a follow-up visit. We then take the results of these tests and compile them into a patient-friendly, easy to understand report of findings and present it to the patient.

At Ocean View Chiropractic, we believe that patient education is paramount in ensuring proper care for the patients. We empower every chiropractic patient to decide their own level of commitment to care by arming them with the same in-depth knowledge that the doctor gathered prior to creating their treatment plan. This is done so that a patient can make the most informed decision when advised to utilize additional services or perform at-home stretches and exercises. If you are a first-time visitor at Ocean View Chiropractic, you will need to give us some information about your background, medical history, and the nature of your condition. This is so that we can provide the best possible care, tailored to your specific circumstances.

Health Forms

We will have you fill out a few forms that provide general information about you and your condition. Our staff is happy to assist you with the paperwork.

Consultation

During your first consultation with the doctor, you will discuss any health-related issues and concerns. You will also learn about chiropractic care and potential treatment options.

History and Examination

In order to pinpoint the problem, Dr. Connelly will ask you a number of questions related to your condition. A variety of targeted neurological, orthopedic, and chiropractic exams will be performed to determine which areas are affected and to what extent.

X-rays

Your specific condition may require us to take x-rays to either rule out more serious conditions. Xrays may also assist us in assessing the most effective treatment plan for you.

Same-Day Treatment

New chiropractic patients will not generally undergo their first treatment on their first visit after the examination and x-rays are completed. This is to allow the doctor time to carefully review all the information collected that day to formulate the best treatment plan for you. However, the doctor may do the same-day treatment when he sees fit.

Home Instructions

Before leaving, you may be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be conducted at home. This may include ice or heat applications, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises depending on condition and treatment plan.

Scheduling Your Next Appointment

Regular treatment is essential to the chiropractic process. We work our treatments around your schedule. Generally speaking, patients are seen within 1 to 2 days of their initial visit and are provided with a complete review of findings. A comprehensive report of the examination and x-ray findings will be presented to you and treatment options for your condition will be discussed at this time.
